How to Stay Cool on a Hot Summer Day

The other day, when it was broiling hot and sweat was dripping down my back into my crack, my oldest son said "Mom, are we really not going on vacation?"

Now, this was AFTER we went to a Reds game.

And AFTER we went to the Big Bugs exhibit at the park.

And AFTER we spent the whole day at the pool.

And AFTER we visited Game Stop and bought video games with allowance money.  I mean, really, does the kid expect vendors on every street corner giving away cotton candy?  Does he want the bluebird of happiness to land on his shoulder and tweet a little song just for him?  Does he want Luke Skywalker to suddenly appear and give him private light saber battling lessons (well, actually, yes he does).  A little gratitude please!

Part of the "staycation" agenda for our long 5 day weekend was a trip to The Beach Waterpark.  After our trip to The Beach, he felt a little better about the staycation, but I suspect he's still grappling with the whole staycation concept.  Speaking of grappling, last night he asked me if I had a grapple hook.  Why yes son, it's in my dresser drawer next to my undies.  Seriously?

So, while he is getting used to the idea of a staycation, and waiting for Luke Skywalker to show up, you can read all about our day at The Beach Waterpark in my article for Family Friendly Cincinnati.  Enjoy!

  1. Grappling hooks should be a part of any good mother's arsenal....right along with straight jackets and a bottle of alcohol of your choice ;) Love the last pic....that bluebird sure looks happy! hehe

  2. Sounds like a fun time!
He wouldn't have gotten to do half as much fun stuff if you had left town.

  4. Reality will hit him in 2 weeks when school starts. Amy--you are right! We need special utility belts for all of our "tools". All I can think of now is Wonder Woman!
